Supporting Students with Dyspraxia

Dyspraxia, also known synonymously as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD),frequently goes undiagnosed but is believed to be a common child-based neurological condition affecting motor learning and motor coordination. It is believed to impact up to10% of school-aged children. Participants in this course will learn how to accurately define Dyspraxia/DCD and learn how to identify common signs in the school environment. This course will delve into how Dyspraxia/DCD impacts education and school-based functioning across all age groups, K-12. Participants will learn strategies to develop improved treatment plans and effective accommodations and modifications to better support their students in school. This course will also address common misconceptions surrounding dyspraxia/DCD and how therapists can promote awareness. Through learning how dyspraxia/DCD impacts motor function, language and communication, education, and social and emotional learning, participants will be better equipped to support their students unique needs in school, at home and in the community. This course is applicable for school-based related service providers, K-12. 45 hours.
