Depression: An Epidemic Occurring Within our Students Today

Depression is becoming a leading concern within our schools today. What exactly is it and how does it impact the mind and body of our students? With an enhanced understanding of this disorder, we will better be able to support and educate our students. In this course we will study the physical and emotional impact of depression, the role schools can play to support students, communicating with parents and families, strategies to help depressed students within the classroom, and common symptoms we might notice while they are in our care. This course is applicable to all educators, guidance counselors/social workers/psychologists, administrators, and any related service providers of all subjects, grades K-12.
45 hours / 3 credits inservice and graduate credits.
